Long Island Craft Beer Week Continues

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Tomorrow night, Friday May 18th, The Cortland in Bay Shore will be featuring a number of Blind Bat beers on tap for their "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night with Blind Bat Brewing Co" event (7 PM - Midnight). The First 50 People Get Limited Edition Cortland Sunglasses. (I’ll be here, but will be wearing my own sunglasses)

Bobby and Ben held on to some Hellsmoke Porter and Belfry Brown to serve for this, but I’ll also be delivering a keg of my Long Island Pale Ale and a rare keg of the Spring 2012 Long Ireland + Blind Bat Saison. The majority of the collaboration was put into 750 ML bottles, only four slim kegs (“sixtels” - which are 1/6 of a barrel, or just over 5 gallons) .

If you some of the Saison from any of the four casks which were tapped for the SimulCask on Monday, you’ll find it to be different from the keg or bottle - much higher carbonation, and colder, of course.
It’s almost a different beer via bottle or keg vs. cask.

MEANWHILE...

Also on Friday night, Tap & Barrel in Smithtown will be holding a Small Craft Cask Festival. Casks are scheduled to be on from three of Long Island’s smaller breweries: Port Jeff, Spider Bite, and Blind Bat. Blind Bat will be supplying a firkin of Eye Chart Ale, Cory will be representing.

Long Island Craft Beer Week (2012)

Monday, May 14, 2012

So, the Long Ireland + Blind Bat Spring 2012 Collaboration Saison has been dubbed the official beer of Long Island Craft Beer Week!

The lion’s share of this one-time brew has been hitting local beer stores in 750 ML bottles, but four casks were also filled for a “SimulCask” tapping at four locations -- and that will be happening tonight at 8:00 PM.

I’ll be at The Cortland for this, but a representative from Long Ireland will be at each of the four locations:

*The Cortland, 27 West Main Street, Bay Shore
* The Black Sheep Ale House, 78 2nd ST., Mineola
* Tap and Barrel, 550-8 Smithtown Bypass, Smithtown
* Corrys Alehouse, 3274 Rairoad Ave, Wantagh

If you are at The Cortland tonight, say hello!

Tomorrow night (Tuesday the 15th) I’ll be at The Black Sheep Ale House while Hellsmoke Porter and Eye Chart Ale are on tap. A test batch of Eye Chart was poured last year at the North Fork Craft Beer Festival, this will be the debut of a tweaked recipe - it’s now an Imperial E.S.B, 7.5% ABV. So beware!

2012

Monday, March 26, 2012

I’ve been neglecting the blog again, but have been keeping up on twitter and facebook as far as any news, updates, etc. Haven’t found time for what used to be the way to get something out quickly, and now by comparison seems like having to find the time to sit down to write that novel.

So, as April approaches, what have I been up to?

Still working on finding new space for an expanded brewery. While Regina andI had been hoping to create a farm brewery as the next step, that is going to have to wait for a bit longer. So, for the next phase (expanded brewery sans farm), I had been hoping to find something near Centerport in Huntington Station, East Northport, Northport, or Huntington -- or even Centerport itself. However, an ideal space and circumstance may be in Bohemia. Lots of details to be worked out first, particularly funding. So, I’m working on that, too.

Have been developing some new beer ideas, including a sessionable but hoppy I.P.A. I have a couple of I.P.A.s in the works for 2012, which should see the light of day if the Mayans aren’t right or if the poles don’t do a sudden shift, etc.

Big fun looming later this week as I brew a collaboration Saison with Dan and Greg at Long Ireland on their 20 BBL system. We’ll have it out in time for Long Island Craft Beer Week in May.

So, back to work, and here I am again hoping to be better about keeping up the old blog.
